CSEM SA
CSEM is a privately held, R&D center established in 1984 in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. From the beginning, CSEM has been committed to both applied and order-related R&D. Laser welding is used to close a disposable cartridge with e.g. a flexible foil. CSEM is currently investing in setting-up this process in-house. For the moment we outsource it after the design and part prototyping. In laser welding the two pieces of interested are assembled, pressed together and finally a dense laser spot or line locally melts the material with little to now heat transfer to the surrounding parts. Ideally, one piece is black such that it can absorb the laser energy.
